Predicates

Types:

  1. Simple Predicates: the verb or verb phrase of the sentence.

    This is usually the only verb in the sentence and will be either action or linking

    EX: John baked a cake.

    EX: The Nina sailed to the New World.

  2. Compound Predicates: two or more simple predicates in the same sentence

    Must take the same subject

    bullet

    EX: John baked a cake and gave it to his mother.

  3. Complete Predicates: the simple predicate, complements, and all modifiers of each

    bullet

    Usually, this is everything from the verb to the end of the sentence

    bullet

    EX John baked a cake.

    bullet

    EX: Before the game began, Alex had a tailgate party.
