Resume and Cover Letter Assignment

Step 1.  Complete the pre-writing information.  For the cover letter, you may click here.  For the Resume, click here.

 

Step 2.  View the list of action verbs you should use when you compose the paragraphs to your cover letter and resume here.

Step 3. Compose a generic cover letter that you can use later.  Be unique with your heading, but remember that you are sending these to businesses.  Your heading should reflect the nature of the business, (i.e. you can be artistic if you wish to pursue advertising, but you should be all business if you are pursuing banking).  Use the prewriting sheet as a guide.

Sample Cover Letters:

  1. College Student
  2. Entry Level
  3. Summer Job
  4. E-mailed Letter

Step 4. Using the heading you created for you cover letter.  Remeber, your cover letter and resume should STAND OUT.   Think: what will separate me from all the other applicants?  Then, type your resume with the following information:

    1. Heading
    2. Objective
    3. School History (This is first only because you should not have much work history yet)
    4. Work History

Step 5. Have another student proofread your documents for errors in spelling, usage, etc.  They need to sign the bottom of your paper as proof.

Step 6. View the rubric with which you will be graded.
